On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, His Holiness Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, graciously presided at the ordination hall of Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram and granted an audience to Venerable Bhaddanta Chandimabhivamsa, Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who paid a respectful visit.
On this occasion, Phra Sophon Nontasarn, Abbot of Wat Bang Phai in Nonthaburi Province, together with the Ambassador of Myanmar to Thailand, led a group of Thai and Myanmar Buddhists to join in paying their respects.
His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch engaged in cordial dialogue with the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, expressing great pleasure in welcoming him as a long-standing friend. He remarked on the enduring and close relationship between Thailand and Myanmar, rooted in their shared devotion to Buddhism. He also recalled his visits to Myanmar on several occasions, fondly remembering the goodwill of the Sangha and the people of Myanmar, as well as significant religious sites in Yangon and Mandalay. Furthermore, he noted that Myanmar monks and students have continuously pursued their studies at Mahamakut Buddhist University and Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, reflecting the strong and lasting bond of shared faith between the two nations.
In response, Venerable Bhaddanta Chandimabhivamsa expressed his profound gratitude for the gracious audience granted by His Holiness. He also conveyed deep appreciation for the continued support extended to Myanmar monks studying at both Buddhist universities. In addition, he respectfully recalled the honor of receiving an honorary degree during His Holiness’s visit to confer degrees at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in previous years. On behalf of the Sangha and the people of Myanmar, he also expressed condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
On the same occasion, Venerable Bhaddanta Chandimabhivamsa offered his blessings, wishing His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch good health and longevity. He further expressed his aspiration for the enduring and stable relationship between Thailand and Myanmar, both at the level of the Sangha and the people, and extended his best wishes for the continued prosperity of the Kingdom of Thailand.
In return, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch graciously acknowledged these well wishes, expressing his hope that they be fulfilled for the Sangha and the people of Myanmar, and likewise extended his blessings for the continued prosperity of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
